After having to demonstrate basic and advanced techniques, plus ten special pre-set forms they concluded with a free form of unarmed combat and self defence.  Examiner, Steve Rowe, 8th Dan, Chairman of the Martial Arts Standards Agency in Chatham Kent, promoted Instructors Alison and Ben Murray to 4th Dan, and their students Sharon Cammidge to 3rd Dan and Richard White to 1st Dan.

At one stage in his career Mr. Murray was honoured to study with Ju-Jutsu expert Professor Hironori Ohtsuka, the founder of Wado Ryu Karate. For many years he also studied under Professor P Sekine, 8th dan Kodokan, Tokyo.

Ju-Jutsu is an ancient fighting system created by Japanese Samurai Warriors. The art combines all Judo and Karate techniques, plus unique special "tricks" of its own that can be used as self-defence. 2005

Come April 2006, the Eurokwai Martial Arts Judo and Karate Club, will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary, and what better way to start the celebrations than with a double success at a National Black Belt grading examination.

Lucky Karate students, Robin Simpson and Serena Lee, both eighteen, from the Eurokwai Martial Arts Club in Virginia Water, performed in an exemplary manner to become 1st Dan Black Belts, awarded by the Japan Karate Association.

The successful grading was completed after several years of diligent study culminating in two hours intensive training at an Examination Centre in Sleaford, Lincolnshire, followed by a formal examination.

Serena and Robin are multi skilled martial artists with similar grades also held in Judo, both having attended the Eurokwai Club since the age of seven.

Eurokwai Martial Arts - Black Belt Successes

April 2007:

On Saturday 14 April 2007, Luke Skinner became the latest Eurokwai member to achieve his Karate 1st dan black belt. His grading was preceded by a full and hard day’s training at the headquarters of Shikon and Martial Arts Standards Agency in Rochester, Kent. Immediately following the course Chief Examiner Steve Rowe, 7th dan, rigorously examined Luke’s technical abilities, as he demonstrated many complex basic techniques, three Katas, basic three step pairs, semi-free sparring, two bouts of free style sparring, concluding  with a fourth Kata : The worthy result being that Luke was successfully graded 1st dan.

After an intensive examination of basic techniques, Kata (forms), and Kumite (sparring), Ben was promoted to 1st Dan black belt.  Ben was one of 18 successful candidates out of 48 taking the test.

Eurokwai welcomes adult beginners to its karate section every Tuesday evening at the Virginia Water Community Centre.  Lessons are designed for complete novices to karate with a strong emphasis on health, fitness, and self defence in a friendly, non-confrontational environment.

Instructors at the club appreciate that many adults are put off starting karate as it is perceived to be too aggressive or something primarily for youngsters, neither is the case at Eurokwai where both males and females of all ages and abilities, over 18, are most welcome and indeed the club has no maximum age limit. The only quality a beginner needs is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, and Eurokwai's instructors will provide the rest in the form of expert tuition gained from their 30+ years experience.
